Shipping containers, Northern Rivers

Shipping container sales, hire and delivery across the Northern Rivers — Lismore, Ballina, Casino, Kyogle, Byron and the coast between them. A local number, answered by someone who knows the roads.

§ 01

What we do, in one paragraph

We sell and hire shipping containers across the Northern Rivers and we deliver them ourselves — from Lismore out to Casino and Kyogle, down the Richmond to Coraki, Woodburn and Wardell, and east to Ballina, Byron and the coast. You ring a local number, you talk to somebody who knows the roads and the ground, and you get one price with the cartage already in it rather than a container price and a freight bill a fortnight later.

No yard, and why that mattersThis is a service-area business. There is no public yard to walk into — units come from depot stock and go straight to your address, which is a large part of why the delivered price is what it is. What we do instead is send photographs of the actual container allocated to your job, on request and before delivery, marks and repairs included rather than photographed around.

Grades matter
Cargo-worthy is the grade we check wind and watertight before it goes on a truck. As-is units are cheaper again and are not sold watertight — one may have a patched repair, a soft floor section or a door seal that no longer seats, and we will tell you exactly what is wrong with it before you buy. New single-trip units are sealed and unmarked. If the container has to keep rain off what is inside it, buy cargo-worthy or better.

§ 02

What it costs

Guide prices, ex GST, cartage quoted with the container
SizeUsed fromNew fromHire from
10ft Containers$4,350$6,400POA
20ft Containers$2,200$3,300$27/wk
40ft Containers$2,600$5,500POA

Guide pricing only, ex GST. What you actually pay delivered depends on the grade, where you are and what is standing in the yard that week. Ring 02 6622 1322 and we will give you a real number instead of a range.

§ 03

Choosing the right one

SizeA 20ft holds roughly a three-bedroom house or a tradesman's workshop and fits on the flat part of most blocks. A 40ft is far better value per cubic metre and needs twelve straight metres of level ground and a long approach. A 10ft costs more than a 20ft, because it is cut down and rebuilt rather than manufactured — you buy one when the block physically will not take the bigger box.

GradeCargo-worthy is the working grade and every cargo-worthy unit is checked wind and watertight before it goes on a truck. As-is is cheaper and is not sold watertight. New single-trip is sealed and unmarked and is the right buy if the container is going to be seen, lined or fitted out.

TypeGeneral purpose covers most jobs. A high cube adds about 300mm of internal height and is what you want if it will ever be lined. Bunded and ventilated dangerous goods units are for chemical, fuel and flammables and are quoted against the actual goods.

§ 04

Water, honestly

We are based in a town that went under in February and March 2022, and we get asked constantly whether a container will keep floodwater out. It will not, and we would rather say so here than let it be assumed.

What a container genuinely offers is height, because you choose the ground it stands on and can build the pad up; mobility, because it can be lifted and moved if there is warning and the truck access is still clear; and dry lockable storage while a rebuild runs, which for a great many households here has been the whole point. An empty container is also buoyant and can float, which is worth knowing before you site one on low ground.

§ 05

Where we deliver

Fourteen locality pages, each written for the ground and the roads that are actually there rather than a template with the town name swapped in.
